Cabinet Section in Eleven MKII

Eleven MKII is the ultimate guitar tone and gear emulation solution included in Avid Pro Tools as one of their flagship stock plugins.

This plugin is capable of emulating the amplifier, cabinet and microphone you would have as part of your real guitar setup.

Today we are going to learn more about the cabinet section of this plugin, how to select different cabinets and modify their parameters.

Let’s explore this!

  1. Open or create a new Pro Tools session

For the purpose of this tutorial we have a session that contains a single audio track with an electric guitar DI signal recorded to it.

Eleven MKII is designed to be added as a plugin (insert) on tracks that only contain DI signals.

2. Add Eleven MKII plugin to the DI guitar track (audio track):

It is easy to see that by default, Eleven MKII comes with the 4×12 Classic 30 cabinet assigned.

However, this can easily be changed by clicking on the “Cab Type” menu.

3. Click on the “Cab Type” menu to see the available cabinet options:

From this list you will find everything from small cabinets that only have one speaker, to full 4×12 cabs.

4. Click on the “1×12 Tweed Lux” cabinet to select it:

If you press play, you will automatically hear the audible differences between cabs.

There is another configuration that Eleven MKII includes as part of the Cabinet Module, this iscalled the “Speaker Breakup”, located at the bottom left of the window:

This horizontal slider lets you add the “speaker-breaking-up feel” as if  you were pushing it too hard with volume in order to obtain that “gritty” sound that some productions and specific genres might need.

Go ahead and experiment with these and get that perfect guitar tone you are looking for!
