Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

Okay, so your interface has been properly assigned to Cubase.

Now, you need to setup its associated inputs and outputs so that you can record and playback sound!

The question is, how do you do this?

Here we go!

  1. Open your Cubase Project:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

2. Click on Studio -> Audio Connections:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

The Audio Connections window will open as:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

This window has several tabs that let us configure the different possible audio connections for signal routing within Cubase.

On this tutorial, we are going to focus on the Inputs and Outputs tabs.

3. Click on the “Inputs” tab:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

The Inputs tab will load its associated parameters as:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

It is easy to see how Cubase has already created a “Stereo In” that contains a Left and a Right channel for audio input purposes.

However, the “Audio Device” shows as “Not Connected”, meaning that no device has been assigned to these inputs.

4. Click on “Not Connected” under the Audio Device column:

The following options will appear as:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

For the purpose of this tutorial, we must select Revelator ASIO as the device for these inputs.

5. Click on “Revelator ASIO”:

The Input devices will now show as:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

It is easy to see now, how the left input is assigned to Mic input 1, while the right input is assigned to Mic input 2. This is correct because those are the inputs offered by our current audio system, which is the Revelator from PreSonus.

At this point the inputs have been properly assigned. Let’s move on to the outputs now.

6. Click on the “Outputs” tab of the Audio Connections window:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

The Outputs settings will show up as:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

Once again, I=it is easy to see how Cubase has already created a “Stereo Out” that contains a Left and a Right channel for audio output purposes.

However, the “Audio Device” shows as “Not Connected”, meaning that no device has been assigned to these outputs.

7. Click on “Not Connected” under the Audio Device column:

The following options will appear as:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

For the purpose of this tutorial, we must select Revelator ASIO as the device for these outputs.

8. Click on “Revelator ASIO”:

The Output devices will now show as:

Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase

It is easy to see now, how the left output is assigned to Playback L, while the right output is assigned to Playback R. This is correct because those are the outputs offered by our current audio system, which is the Revelator from PreSonus.

And that is it!

You have now properly configured the Inputs and Outputs in Cubase. You can now record and playback audio material.

We hope you found this tutorial on Inputs and Outputs Setup in Cubase helpful!
