Recording MIDI in Cubase
So you want to start producing your song and you are looking to record some virtual instruments.
Perhaps you want to lay down a couple piano chords for a singer to sing on top of it?
You have a MIDI keyboard already assigned and you want to program an arrangement?
This blog will show you how to record MIDI using virtual instruments in Cubase!
How do we do this?
Here we go!
- Open your Cubase project:
2. Press letter “T” to create a new instrument track:
For the purpose of this tutorial we will create an instrument track labeled as “Synth” and it will have the Retrologue instrument associated to it.
3. Press “Add Track” to add the track to the timeline:
4. Locate the Inspector tab on the left:
5. From the available MIDI inputs, you can select your desired MIDI keyboard.
For the purpose of this tutorial we will select “Oxygen 61”.
6. Make sure the instrument track is record enabled, and press the Transport Record button to start recording:
Play the instrument to record the part.
7. Once finished you can stop the recording by pressing the space bar:
You can now press play, and listen to your recorded MIDI performance playing on your associated virtual instrument!
