Fade Editor in Cubase

Let’s say you have recorded some parts and compiled them into a final take.

You have created your crossfades between sections.

But, you did it all manually…

It isn’t as perfect as you wish, and you are looking for a way to make that crossfade exactly the length you need.

Is there a way to type the exact length and perhaps select the shape of the crossfade?

Yes there is!

The answer is called “Fade Editor”.

Let’s explore this now!

Here we go!

  1. Open your Cubase project:

Fade Editor in Cubase

2. Click on the crossfade to select it:

3. From the top menu bar click on: Audio -> Fades -> Open Fades Editor:

Fade Editor in Cubase

The Fade Editor window will open as:

Fade Editor in Cubase

It is easy to see how the Fade Editor controls our crossfade as:

So from this window we have two main areas, the Fade Out, and Fade In areas:

We can note how both of these areas gives us options such as:

  • Length: This field lets you determine the length of the fade
  • Overlap: This field lets you determine how much overlap happens in the fade.
  • Volume: This field lets you modify the volume at the fade.
  • Nudge: This field determines how much nudging happens at the fade.
  • Shape: These options let you select the shapes of the fade.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we will make the following options:

  • Length: 0.005 seconds
  • Overlap: 50%
  • Volume: 0 dB
  • Nudge: 1.2.1.76
  • Shape: Curve.

4. Apply the previous settings:

The Fade Editor Window should appear as:

Fade Editor in Cubase

5. Close the window to apply the changes:

Cubase will go back to the main window as:

Fade Editor in Cubase

It is easy to see how the new crossfade has the curve shape and the length previously determined!

And that is how you use the Fade Editor in Cubase!

We hope you found this tutorial on how to use the Fade Editor in Cubase helpful!
