MIDI Tracks in Cubase

Let’s say you have already created a project in Cubase, and you want to start producing the song using MIDI, perhaps to trigger external synths or even virtual instruments.

What do you need?

You need to create your MIDI Tracks!

MIDI Tracks let your record your MIDI performance into them. MIDI Tracks do not output any “sound”, but only MIDI information.

MIDI information contains data such as note value and velocity, which can be used to trigger external synths or virtual instruments within Cubase.

How do you do this?

Let’s talk about MIDI Tracks in Cubase.

  1. Let’s say you have an existing project in Cubase:

2. On the top menu bar click: Project -> Add Track -> MIDI:

MIDI Tracks in Cubase

The “Add Track” window will show as:

MIDI Tracks in Cubase

From this window we can see there are several parameters such as:

  • Name: This field lets your type the name of the MIDI track.
  • Count: This option lets you determine the amount of MIDI tracks to be created.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we will create a single MIDI track labeled as “Piano Notes”.

3. Apply the following parameters:

4. Click on “Add Track”:

The MIDI track will be created as:

And that is it! You are ready to record on your MIDI Track!

We hope you found this tutorial on MIDI Tracks in Cubase helpful!
