Mute MIDI Parts in Cubase

So you you have been recording your MIDI parts in order to produce your song.

You get to a point in which everything has been programmed on the instrument track but now you have all of these MIDI events back to back.

There are parts you liked, and parts you did not like.

However, the ones you did not like, you do not want to delete, nor listen.

What can you do here?

You must MUTE the actual MIDI part.

Is this possible?

Yes!

How?

Here we go!

  1. Open the Cubase Project:

For the purpose of this tutorial we have an instrument track that contains three MIDI events in it.

Let’s assume we do not want the third (last) MIDI part to playback, therefore we want to MUTE it.

2. Click on the MIDI part that we want to mute in order to select it:

3. From the top menu bar click: Edit -> Mute:

The MIDI event will be muted as:

It is easy to see how it got muted since the color changed and the name switched to a greyed-out color.

4. Press play in order to playback the track.

It is obvious that when the playback passes on top of the muted event, no audio will play. This indicates we have in fact, muted the event.

And that is it!
