Reason Studios has officially released the latest update for their flagship software Reason, now featuring version 11, which can be downloaded from the Reason Studios website. On this tutorial we will present the new features added to this important update. The list will be divided into five blog entries, this is the second part.

Reason 11 includes a good amount of updated workflow features and new devices, making this software ideal for the traditional composer, musician and also the modern non-linear music producer.

The second article of the new Reason 11 will review the new devices included. These devices are:

 

 

Quartet Chorus Ensemble:

This new rack device is a digital emulation of an analog chorus device. It comes with four different algorithms of chorus/ensemble, with their own parameters. This device was designed to be used as an insert to add more dense characteristics to the signal with its embedded dry/wet knob to control the amount of effect applied.

 

 

Sweeper Modulation Effect:

This new rack device works as a phaser, flanger and filter. It gives the use the possibility to draw its own modulation curve and assign it to certain effect parameters, yielding very interesting and complex results. The rate can be synchronized to the tempo of the song for aesthetic purposes.

 

 

Master Bus Compressor:

This new device is the rack version of the original Reason Master Bus Compressor located on the main mixer. This device resembles the classic analog bus compressor included on vintage British consoles. It contains the basic parameters included on all compressors with the added Mix knob so the user can apply it as an insert if needed.

 

 

Channel Dynamics:

This new device is the rack version of the classics dynamics section included in Reason’s main mixer. It provides the user with the original compression and gate/expander functions included in classic British channel strips with the added Mix knob so that it can be used as an insert if needed.

 

 

Channel EQ:

This new device is the rack version of the classics EQ section included in Reason’s main mixer. It provides the user with the original 4-band equalizer, HPF, LPF, mode selector and gain knob included in classic British channel strips.
