Reason 11 includes a good amount of updated workflow features and new devices, making this software ideal for the traditional composer, musician and also the modern non-linear music producer.

The fourth article of the new Reason 11 will review the improved individual vertical zoom per track and the ability to mute individual MIDI notes.

Part I: Vertical Zoom per Track

On previous versions of Reason, zooming in vertically used to a procedure that had to be applied to all tracks at the same time, making it a bit confusing for some users. With the new version of Reason Studios 11, the user now has the possibility of zooming in vertically on a single track without affecting the others. Also, the zoom applied to the track, does not depend on the zoom applied to the automation lines or the actual waveform.

Look at the following track list on Reason Studios 11:

If the user wants to vertically zoom-in the track labeled as “Bass Guitar”, it is only needed to click on the lower boundary of the track from the track list and drag it to expand it vertically as:

Note how the track on the track list is larger but the size of the piano roll and automation curves stay the same.

Part II: Mute Individual MIDI Notes

Reason Studios 11 gives the user the possibility of muting individual MIDI notes in order to try different MIDI parts using the MUTE tool. Instead of muting a whole clip, the user can mute note by note.

Look at the following MIDI part:

The MUTE tool can be found as:

Once selected, the user can click on individual MIDI notes in order to mute them. Muted notes will show as light blue:
