When we are about to record audio in Cubase, we must properly set the Studio Setup window first.

There are some options here that are crucial in order to be able to properly record in this DAW without any problems such as latency or audio stream drops

Let’s give it a try!

  1. Make sure your interface is connected to the computer, drivers are installed, and your computer can “see” it connected.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we are using a PreSonus 44-VSL interface.

It is currently connected and it is easy to see how the driver recognized it:

5. From the ASIO Driver drop-down list select your interface:

For the purpose of this tutorial we are using the PreSonus 44VSL and the driver is called “AudioBox ASIO Driver”.

Once selecting it, the system will ask if we want to switch:

6. Press “Switch”:

From this list we need to make sure that:

“Release Driver When Application is in Background” is not checked.

We also need to make sure the buffer size is LOW for recording, this will yield shorter latency times, making it easy to record.

Buffer Size we typically change at the actual interface driver.

In our case, we have changed ours to 64 samples, which is perfect for recording.

If you are mixing instead of recording, you want to raise the buffer (block) size for higher performance with software inserts and plugins.

And that is it!

We are ready to record audio into Cubase!

We hope you found this tutorial on how to properly operate the Studio Setup window in Cubase for Audio Recording purposes helpful.
